Moonshot Thinking

Its a good thought, that we often forget what we could accomplish by persistent, dedicated, hard work.

Cup Lights

Have you been there where after a party or an event, your left with a bunch of used plastic cups and have no other solution other than to throw them out ? Here is a creative solution. Cup Lights!

According to the size you want, staple cups together to make a rows of rings. Burn the rear end of the cup small enough to let a small series light get through. Get the lights inside and later staple all the layers together.

Umami - The Fifth Sense Of The Tongue

Umami, a savory taste is one of the five basic tastes (together with sweet, sour, bitter and salty). Its existence was proposed by the Japanese since 1908 and in 1985, it was recognised as a scientific term.

It can be described as a pleasant brothy or meaty taste with a long lasting mouth-watering and coating sensation over the tongue.

(Don’t seem to remember my high school teacher  telling me this….)

Bottle Cap As A Container

There were some plastic bottle tops left over after the other experiments that we were doing, so why not use those too?

(We tried it with water. It’s not perfectly watertight but it’ll work as a temporary solution)

Bottle Planters

Another interesting way of using plastic bottles is using them as planters. It’s pretty simple too. All you need is a plastic water bottle (The curvy soft drink ones won’t do), some yarn (dirt cheap), a cutter and some glue.

The BlackHole House

It was created by Houston based art trio Kate Petley, Dan Harvel and Dean Ruck. They decided to make the most of a doomed dwelling by transforming it into a memorable installation called "The Tunnel" or "Hole" House. Local spectators were able to experience their own personal Outer-space /Alice in wonderland fantasy.Sadly the whole thing was leveled in 2005.

But wouldn't it have been cool to say " I live adjacent to the House with the black hole."   ;)

Art with your toothbrush.

Instead of throwing away your toothbrush, this month why not paint with it? (After a thorough cleaning of course). Use it along with your other paint brushes and watch yourself create something new. =) (art credits : salman khan)

High-Rise Buildings in the 16th BC ?

When do you think the concept of high-rise buildings came to be?

In Shibam, the 16th century city in Yemen consisted entirely of over 500 high-rise tower houses. It was built with mud brick and rose approx. to about 11 stories high. Why? Mainly defense . It was to protect themselves from the recurring Bedouin attacks at that time.

Reusing Bamboo

Bamboo is an amazing natural resource to have due to its numerous advantages. The species we had the chance to work with was guadua - used as ‘Vegetable-Steel’ (Since it holds the tensile strength of 10mm steel bar).

Since bamboo sap is sweet, it is susceptible to to ants, insects and fungi. So we came up with better ways to reuse it.

Papercut

Whether it’s a gift for a loved one or creative artwork, this paper cut technique always comes in handy. It could be used out of scrap paper as well. The pic on the right was a present from my sister on my birthday. =)

Bringing Nature Inside

Influenced by the architect I am training under, Ar. Eugene Pandala, I got encouraged to get closer to nature. This is what I came up with.

Acrylic Bracelets

Here’s an interesting thing to do for the crafty ladies out there. Take a common waste resource for architecture students like acrylic. The thickness will depend on what you can cut it with. For thin strips, a normal cutter would suffice but thicker strips would need a laser cutter. First, measure your wrist or the size you’d like and cut a strip of acrylic. Then after making a stencil, carve out your design on the acrylic strip and heat it to get the curve. It will take a couple of tries to get it right though.
